The 3G capable Poynt terminals allow merchants to connect wirelessly using a cellular network. Your Reseller will provide a SIM card and APN settings information
Poynt devices come unlocked and you will need to add APN info provided by the carrier to set up your device to connect wirelessly using a cellular network.
Confirm that your device is cellular-enabled:
If your Poynt device is cellular capable, its serial number will include a C, G, or L instead of the usual W.
Cellular Enabled Device: P61SG (2G/3G), P61SC (2G/3G), P5SC (2G/3G), P5SL (4GLTE)
Wi-fi Only Device: P61JW (Wireless), P5SW
Your reseller will on-board the 3G device and activate it. The SIM card will be included along with the device.
This is also when a poynt.net account is created for you.
Insert the SIM card prior to turning on the device. See here for instructions on inserting SIM card based on your device.
Configuring the mobile network
Once the SIM card has been inserted and device powered on and Wi-Fi is toggle off, go to the Settings screen. Each device has a slightly different way to access the settings. See below for the specific device.
To access Settings:
P5: Swipe down twice to access --> Settings --> Mobile Settings --> Toggle on Mobile Data and Data Roaming
You can test the connection by going to the Help App on the Home Screen and running diagnostics. If the device is able to connect to Poynt servers (green check mark), you can run a test transaction and begin using the device.
If you are unable to connect to a wireless network, you might have to manually add in the APN. From the Home screen, swipe down twice to access --> Settings --> Mobile APN Settings -->Add APN --> Save. Please reach out to your Reseller for this info.
P61 V2- swipe down twice to access Settings --> Mobile Settings --> Toggle on Data Roaming
At this point, the device should connect to an available network. You can click on Access Point Names to view details on the network.
You can also further test by going to the Help App on the Home Screen, and running diagnostics. If the device is able to connect to Poynt servers (green checkmark), you can run a test transaction and begin using the device.
If the device doesn't automatically connect to the network, you can add in the mobile network in Settings.
Go to Settings --> Mobile Settings --> Access Point Names and click on the + sign on the top right hand corner. Here you can enter in the details of the mobile network. Please reach out to your Reseller for this info.
To save this APN, click on the three dots on the top right hand side.
P61: Swipe down once --> Settings --> Mobile Settings --> Check on Mobile Data and Data Roaming
Click on Preferred Network type and choose the 3G option:
At this point, the device should connect to an available network. To test, go to the Help App on the Home Screen, and run diagnostics. If the device is able to connect to Poynt servers (green checkmark), you can run a test transaction and begin using the device.
If the device doesn't automatically connect to the network, you can add in the mobile network in Settings --> Mobile Network settings --> Access Point Names. Your Reseller will provide you the information to enter in.
Once this is entered in, go back to the Help app and run diagnostics to make sure that the device can connect to the Poynt servers and run a test transaction.
