New Updates for Poynt merchants – July 2016
A) Transaction Type Menu:
The Transaction type menu has been relocated into the top left corner of the terminal app for easier access. Tap the down arrow on the bar and you will see the possible transaction type.
As a reminder, Auth-Only transactions are intended typically for physical-goods merchants in a delayed inventory scenario where the customer’s card is first authorized and then manually captured at a later date. You can manage your Auth-Only transactions in the Settlements App > Auth-Only tab.
In addition, Non-Reference Refund option is available only to Terminal Users with “Owner” permission/role. Non-Reference Refund allows merchants to issue a refund directly to a customer’s credit card without a prior referenced captured transaction.
B) New Payment Options:
Merchants now have the ability to mark/annotate transactions as having been processed/paid via alternate Payment tender types – Check or “Other”. “Other” can be used for store credit, external gift cards/vouchers, etc and allow you to track all transactions from your Poynt Terminal.
Step 1: To pay with ‘Check’ or ‘Other’ payment methods, tap on the Terminal app and type in the exact amount of the sale.
Step 2: Tap Charge in the terminal screen so that the payment window pops up. Once here, click the double bar sub-menu in the right corner of the blue screen.
Step 3: A black sub-menu window will open and alternate payment options are offered. Tip: You can enter Notes on the transaction from here first and then choose the payment option – Cash, Check, or Other.
New Payment Options available are:
- Check
- Other
- Manual Entry (another shortcut into manually typing in credit card information)
Step 4 (option for Check Payments):
To accept a check from a customer, select the option labeled ‘CHECK’ in the black screen above. The below window will show up, where merchants can write any notes they have. Then, finish the transaction by selecting the complete button in the bottom right.
Suggestion: type in the Customer’s Check Number in the Notes field for tracking purposes. The notes will appear in the merchant’s Transaction Report.
Step 4 (option for ‘Other’ Payments):
For tracking transactions paid by Other payment tender types, such as Gift Cards, Vouchers, Store Credit, etc, select the option labeled ‘OTHER’ in the black screen from Step 3. The below window will show up where merchants can write down any notes they have. Finish the transaction by selecting the complete button in the bottom right.
Step 4 (option for Manual Entry):
Now, merchants who primarily use Terminal App for transaction processing can process Manual Entry transactions directly from Terminal App instead of navigating back to the home screen to perform manual entry transactions. Directly from the Terminal App, enter the amount to be charged to the customer. Click the Manual Entry option in the black screen mentioned in Step 3. The below window will show up where merchants will then enter the card information into each box. Once completed, click the charge button and the transaction will continue to receipt options.
C) Updated Transaction List and Icons:
When you process transactions with any of the new alternative payment options, you’ll see those icons appear in the Terminal App > Transaction List:
D) Updated Poynt.net Transaction Reports with Employee Column & 'Other' Payment types:
Employees:
For merchants who have multiple Terminal User logins for employees, the Transaction Report will show transactions and the corresponding Employee who processed the transaction. For merchants who need to report on Tips per employee, the Transaction Report will also allow the merchant to see tip amounts for each transaction per employee.
